Observational Characteristics of Geoeffective CMEs
Veronica Ontiveros (SCIESMEX, UNAM)
Abstract. We present a study of the observational characteristics and propagation properties of CMEs associated with the largest Geomagnetic Storms (GSs) for the ongoing Solar Cycle 24. It is well known that the strength and orientation of the magnetic field carried by the CMEs are the most relevant quantities for the occurrence of GSs. However the CME’s size, angular width and localization of the associated source region, may play as well an important role in modulating the intensity and duration of the registered geomagnetic disturbances.
